LIHU‘E — The summer roadwork season is in full swing, with a number of lane closures scheduled this week, including a nightly, single-lane closure for emergency deck repairs on the Kuhio Highway Bryan J. Baptiste Memorial Bridge over the Wailua River.
The following is a slate of lane closures around the island, according to the Hawai‘i Department of Transportation:
‘Ele‘ele
• An alternating lane shift on Halewili Road is possible in either direction at Wahiawa Stream bridge on Tuesday, June 27, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., for routine bridge inspections.
Hanalei
• A nightly, full closure of Kuhio Highway between Hanalei Plantation Road and Ohiki Road starts on Tuesday, June 27, from 11 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., for the Hanalei Bridge Repair Project. The roadwork is scheduled to take place every week thereafter, Sunday evenings through Friday mornings, for six months.
Kaumakani
• A single lane closure on Kaumuali‘i Highway is possible for grass cutting and guardrail clearing, in the westbound direction, between mile markers 19 and 22, in the vicinity of Kaumakani Avenue, on Monday, June 26, through Friday, June 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Kealia
• A single lane closure on Kuhio Highway is possible in either direction for reconstruction and paving in the vicinity of Mailihuna Road and Aliomanu Road, through Friday, June 30, from 8:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.
Kilauea
• A right-lane closure on Kuhio Highway is possible in either direction, for grass cutting, between mile markers 23 and 26, in the vicinity of Kuawa Road and the Princeville Airport, from Monday through Friday, June 26 to 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Lihu‘e
• A right-lane closure on Nawiliwili Road in the westbound direction is possible for grass cutting, between mile markers 0 and 2, in the vicinity of Kukui Grove Street and Wa‘apa Road, from Monday through Friday, June 26 to 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.;
• A right lane closure on Kuhio Highway is possible in the southbound direction for tree trimming between mile markers 0 and 1.2, in the vicinity of Rice Street and Kapaia Road, beginning Monday, June 26, through Friday, June 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
• A right-lane closure on Kuhio Highway is possible in the northbound direction for guardrail repairs between mile markers 1 and 2.5, in the vicinity of Laukini Road and Kapule Highway, on Tuesday, June 27, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.;
• A right-lane closure on Kuhio Highway is possible in the southbound direction for grass cutting between mile markers 2.6 and 5, in the vicinity of Kapule Highway and Leho Drive, from Monday through Friday, June 26 to 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.;
• A right-lane closure on Kuhio Highway is possible in the northbound direction for utility work between mile markers 4.7 and 5.6, in the vicinity of South and North Leho Drive, from Monday to Wednesday, June 26 to 28, from noon to 3 p.m.;
• An alternating lane shift on Kapule Highway is possible in either direction for routine bridge inspections at Hanama‘ulu bridge, in the vicinity of Hehi Road, on Thursday, June 29, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Wailua
• A nightly, single-lane closure of Kuhio Highway is scheduled for emergency deck repairs between the southern point of the Mayor Bryan J. Baptiste Memorial Bridge and Kuamo‘o Road, from Monday to Friday, June 26 to 30, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.;
• A right-shoulder closure and narrowed lanes of Kuhio Highway are possible in the southbound direction between mile markers 5.7 and 6.7, in the vicinity of Leho Drive and the Kapa‘a bypass, for the Kuhio Highway Short-Term Improvements;
• A single lane closure on Kuhio Highway is possible in either direction for guardrail installation and striping, between mile marker 5.9 and 6.6, in the vicinity of Kuamo‘o Road and the Kapa‘a bypass, from Monday to Friday, June 26 to 30, from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.;
• Nightly, two-lane closures of Kuhio Highway are possible in either direction between mile markers 5.9 and 6.6, in the vicinity of Kuamo‘o Road and the Kapa‘a bypass, through Friday, June 30, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., for lane smoothness grinding and striping layout as a part of the Kuhio Highway Short-Term Improvements. Traffic will alternate in both directions through one open lane.
