LIHU‘E — A Honolulu-based luxury hotel chain is reconnecting with the island of Kaua‘i.
OUTRIGGER Resorts &Hotels announced Thursday that it plans to acquire Kaua‘i Beach Resort &Spa in Lihu‘e. The transaction is expected to close on Aug. 22. Terms were not disclosed.
“OUTRIGGER’s legacy in Hawaii spans 75 years; we remain committed to being exceptional stewards of this special place and its rich cultural heritage, while contributing to the prosperity of the local community,” said Jeff Wagoner, President and CEO of OUTRIGGER Resorts &Hotels, in a statement.
“Kauai Beach Resort &Spa was managed by OUTRIGGER in the ’90s, so this transition feels like a welcome home — we look forward to further enhancing the property for both our guests and hosts.”
The pending acquisition of the resort, which spans 25 acres and features 350 guestrooms, represents a key milestone in OUTRIGGER’S ongoing expansion effort.
Once the deal closes, the hotelier will have a presence on the four major Hawaiian islands — Hawai‘i Island, Kaua‘i, Maui and O‘ahu. The deal comes about a month after the hotelier acquired Ka‘anapali Beach Hotel on Maui, and will be the seventh transaction it has made in the last two years.
The sale of a hotel on Kaua‘i is not something that has happened often through the years. But there have been a few sales of recent vintage.
Coco Palms Resort in Wailua was sold at public auction in July 2021; St. Regis Princeville Resort in Princeville was acquired by Starwood Capital Group in November 2018; and Ko‘a Kea Hotel &Resort in Po‘ipu was bought by Pacific Hospitality Group in January 2016.
