WAINIHA — A morning residential fire on Wainiha Powerhouse Road displaced four people and caused an estimated $160,000 in damage to the structure and its contents.
Kaua‘i Fire Department personnel responded to a report of the fire in Wainiha shortly before 6:50 a.m. on Tuesday.
“According to a preliminary report, fire personnel arrived at a one-story residential building shortly before 7:10 a.m. and found that the structure was fully engulfed in flames,” the department said in a statement on Wednesday.
“There was no one inside the building at the time of the fire. Since the water supply was limited, firefighters had to draw water from a nearby stream and adopt a defensive position to safeguard nearby structures. The firefighters kept shuttling water to put out the fire until it was completely extinguished.”
No injuries were reported.
Volunteers with the American Red Cross assisted one person who requested support. The cause of the fire is undetermined.
