The latest on-air radio personality, Phil Best on FM97 got to meet the 16 or 17 students and Professor Kaitlin Phillips (she’s a Mohawk) of Humber College in Toronto, Canada, who are visiting Kaua‘i Community College (Dennis Chun is still waiting for a phone call to join Hokule‘a, and Brian Yamamoto is still recovering from last week’s bon dance at the Kapa‘a Hongwanji) for a Summer Abroad program to study Indigenous people. Phillips said five of the group are Indigenous people (the way they said their people’s names was intimidating) from the Toronto area.
Happy birthday, Tiffany Dick, whose Saturday walk-thru of “At the Edge of Glory” was interrupted by Lacey Love and Mel Rapozo, who brought over special commendation certificates celebrating Tiffany and the Aloha Dance Studio accomplishments and achievements over the past 20 years. Remember those Relay For Life dancers? Relay For Life returns this year, too!
And kudos to Girl Scouts Troop Leader Amy Khan on getting a toilet paper roll converted into a car to match the Kaua‘i Classic Cars Fathers Day car show at Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e on Saturday.
We do it all again Friday and Saturday when the West Kaua‘i Hongwanji and the Rev. Tomo Hojo hosts its first bon dance in three years.
