WAIMEA — The Waimea Public Library and the Friends of the Waimea Public Library will host storyteller Dave Del Rocco on Monday starting at 5:30 p.m. in celebration of the library’s 2023 Summer Reading Challenge.
Michelle Young, the Waimea Public Library Branch Manager, said storyteller Dave will be telling folktales from Hawai‘i and other parts of the world, including Laos, Italy, Alaska, and the Philippines, Africa and more during the “Stories of Hawai‘i and the World with Dave Del Rocco” presentation. The funny tales explain how different cultures view aspects of their world, and is suitable for all ages but especially for children ages 5 through 12 years old.
Del Rocco is a Hawaiian Culture and Social Studies teacher at an O‘ahu private school. He started storytelling while working as a new librarian at the Hawai‘i Kai library branch.
Del Rocco’s visit is sponsored by the Friends of the Library of Hawai‘i and sponsors of the 2023 Summer Reading Challenge themed E Heluhelu Kakou, or “Let’s Read.” This is a production of the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa Outreach College’s Statewide Cultural Extension Program with additional funding provided by the National Endowment for the Arts, Hawai‘i State Foundation on Culture and the Arts and the University of Hawai‘i.
