KALAHEO — A residential structure fire caused an estimated $500,000 in damage and displaced three people on Friday night, authorities said.
The incident happened at approximately 8 p.m. at a house on Pu‘uwai Road in Kalaheo.
“Firefighters arrived on-scene and found a single-story residence fully engulfed inflames. No occupants of the residence were inside or around the scene,” the Kauai Fire Department said in a statement on Saturday.
“After establishing a water supply, the fire was brought under control and fully extinguished. Crews cleared the scene at approximately 11:30 p.m.”
The residential blaze drew a response from firefighters of multiple fire stations — Hanapepe, Kalaheo, Lihue and Waimea. An on-duty battalion chief and Fire Prevention Bureau personnel were also on-scene.
The owner and occupants of the property were not on-scene. However, according to a preliminary report, officials believe there were three people who lived in the residence.
“The cause of the fire remains under investigation and no further information is available at this time,” the fire department said in a statement.
