Albert G. Moura
Albert G. Moura passed away on May 13, 2023, in Kalaheo, at the age of 94. He was born on Jan. 14, 1929. He was a Korean War Veteran and one of the most skilled machinist on Kaua‘i. His first job as a machinist was at Kaua‘i Pine. After the closure of Kaua‘i Pine, he worked for Lihu‘e Plantation Company where he retired after 40 years. He married his one and only true love Dorothy Texeira Moura 70 years ago on May 23, 1953. His love for his family was unconditional always putting them first. He attended all of his grandchildren’s sporting events and was their biggest cheerleader. He was a devout parishioner of Holy Cross Catholic Church who devoted much of his life time as an usher.
He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph C. and Frances Moura, brothers Clarence and Wallace Moura and sister Angelica Tavares.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy Texeira Moura of Kalaheo, daughters Marlene (Larry) Moises of Lawai, Tanya (James) Brown of Indiana, Audrey (Wayne) Bonilla of Lihu‘e, grandchildren Brandon (Brandi) Moises of Waimea, Tyson (SheriAnn) Moises of Lawai, Dustin (Kristi) Moises of Lihu‘e, Marissa (Mel) Purcell of Lihu‘e, Cody (Mele) Bonilla of Lihu‘e, great-grandchildren Braeanna Moises, Jeydon Moises, Avaeah Moises, Maiyah Moises, Noah Moises, Eden Moises, Shealee Moises, Kenzie Moises, Melia Purcell, MJ Purcell, Matai Purcell, Talan Bonilla, Haven Bonilla, sister Frances Freitas, sister- in-law Violet Moura, numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on June 17, 2023, at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Viewing is from 9 to 10:30 a.m., Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m., and burial will be at Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery at 1 p.m.
Benny Mones
Benny Mones, 97, passed away on May 23, 2023, in Lihu‘e. He was born on May 7, 1926, in the Philippines. He was a retired truck driver.
He was preceded in death by parents Juan and Francisca Mones, brother Benjamin Mones and sister Prudencia Bascos.
He is survived by wife Anastacia Mones, stepsons Dennis Peralta, Michael Chang, nephews Jimmy Mones, Ben Mones, Leo Mones and Milo Mones.
Friends may visit the family on Thursday, June 22, at Immaculate Conception Church in Lihu‘e. Visitation begins at 8:30 a.m., service at 10 a.m., and burial will follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home at 11:30 a.m.

Wally Kailanipoinaole Kawahalau Sr., of Hanapepe, passed away in Waimea on May 26, 2023, at the age of 58. He was born on May 17, 1965, in Ni‘ihau.
He was preceded in death by wife Laurice Kawahalau, daughter Sierra Kawahalau, father Leonard Kanahele, mother Cecelia Kanahele and sister Cecelia Beniamina.

Service will be at Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church in Kekaha on Friday, June 16, with visitation from 9 to 11 a.m. followed by a celebration of life at West Kaua‘i Enterprise Center. The family requests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Hilda Leandro Perreira, of Kalaheo, passed away on June 4, 2023 at the age of 93. Born on July 21, 1929, she was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by husband George Perreira Sr., son Ronald Perreira Sr., grandsons Ronald (Ronnie Boy) Perreira Jr. and Byron Perreira.
She is survived by children Loretta (Walter) Ritte of Molokai, George (Charmaine) Perreira Jr., Michael (Michelle) Perreira, Thomas “Tommy” (Jane) Perreira, Kris (Wilmar) Sagocio, daughter-in-law Valerie Perreira of Kaua‘i, grandchildren Greg (Kelly) Perreira, Jason Perreira, Tiare (Tom) Manangan, Li-Ana (Pulot) Corpus, Kalaniua (Mercy) Ritte, Kamohai (Michele) Ritte, Malia (Doug) Freitas, Brian (Enjo) Perreira, Glice Planas, Punahele (Micah) Duarte-Perreira, Kalei Fermin, Tiana Perreira, Kaimana (Shania) Sagocio, Puamelekule (Eric) Sagocio, Kahea (Kody) Sagocio, 43 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great grandchildren, sister Roberta Rita of Kaua‘i, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 17, at her residence located at 4825 Puuwai Road, Kalaheo. Visitation begins at 11 a.m. with blessings to follow.

Susan Gano Knox Cabe Faye born in Seattle, Washington, on Oct. 5, 1934 has transcended to her resting hale on May 18, 2023.

Nancy J. Young
Nancy J. Young, of Kalaheo, passed away on June 4, 2023, in Waimea at the age of 83. She was born on Nov. 7, 1939, in Evergreen Park, Illinois. She was an artist.
She was preceded in death by husband Charles Allen Young.
She is survived by son Michael A. Young (Irina) of Kalaheo, grandchildren Manu and Mila Young, brother James Peck (Laurie) of New York, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A private service was held.

George Shoichi Kawamura
January 19, 1933 — April 13, 2023
George passed away peacefully at the age of 90, at the Longhouse Memory Care Center in Seattle. He was born in Haiku Maui, the fourth of seven children. In 1961, he moved his young family to Kaua‘i and worked as an Air Traffic Controller for the Air National Guard in Koke‘e until he retired as a Lt. Colonel. During his time off, he started Aloha Carpet Cleaning and became a real estate broker. He had many close friends through golf, the Kaua‘i Jaycees and Lion’s Club. Apparently a “single digit” golfer in his prime, he enjoyed golf until his mid-eighties. As a family man, his love for nature and the ocean took his family and their cousins torching, camping, and spear fishing for unforgettable experiences and summers. George’s spirit for adventure never wavered and his travels after retirement could fill a book. He spent 4 years backpacking in New Zealand, Australia, Southeast Asia and Africa. After returning to the U.S., he bought an RV and spent 10 years traveling all over North America from Nova Scotia and Alaska to Baja. He eventually settled in Sierra Vista, Arizona where he enjoyed a desert flower garden, playing more golf and flying to exotic destinations by tour. A good friend to all those around him, he will be remembered by his kindness and generosity, an unshakeable “can do” spirit for adventure, and love for nature.
George is survived by his sister Naomi of Honolulu, his brother James, his children Walter of Waimea, Masae of Mill Valley, California, Cydney Kawamura of Seattle, Washington, grandchildren, Kelcie and Kendra Kawamura, and Aki and Koji Gormezano.
His ashes will be scattered privately on Kaua‘i at a future date. The family requests no koden and instead, requests offerings be made to “Operation Smile,” George’s favorite charity.
