Dominica DeTrolio (did spell check change the spelling?) has been busy since graduating from Island School. According to Nannie Ann Apalla (mom Nancy was checking in with Lenny Rapozo on the upcoming Miss Kaua‘i Filipina scholarship pageant at the Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Hall), Dominica is a summer intern with Rebecca Like. She was helping check in guests to the mental health conference (mahalo, Gov. Josh Green, for dropping in) before rushing off to the 98th Police Recruit Class graduation, and back again to the conference where Augie Tulba (what? He doesn’t want that 64 percent pay raise?) got to emcee the final day.

The conference (kudos to all the organizers!) is only the start of a super busy weekend that starts with the King’s Parade and Ho‘olaule‘a presented by the King Kamehameha Celebration Commission (what time does it really start?).
Devi Berg said Aunty Kapu Kinimaka-Alquiza and Na Hula O Kaohikukapulani will present its summer hula showcase starting at noon at Kukui Grove Center (yes, there’s no admission … just come have lunch!), and Melissa McFerrin-Warrack of Kukui Grove said Tiffany Dodge and Aloha Dance Studio has its dance showcase starting at 1:30 p.m … still lots of time to get the honu model (it’s a make-and-take!) being offered by Kaua‘i Ocean Discovery.
And, Sunday? No, Edwin Vea said it’s The Beach House (restaurant) Craft Fair from 9 a.m. with more than 40 vendors, and entertainment.
Everything ends with the Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i offering its free Kamehameha observance with Kumu Hula Troy Lazaro starting at 5 p.m. at the Seaview Terrace.
Good thing Monday is a state (and county) holiday!
