KIPU — The Kaua‘i Humane Society will receive a $20,000 grant investment from the national nonprofit Petco Love in support of their lifesaving work for animals on Kaua‘i.
“Petco Love’s support in our shelter, and our shelter animals means so much,” said KHS Executive Director Nicole Schafer Crane on Thursday.
“It means heart worm treatment for Brutus, our 5-year-old American Staffordshire mix, an extracted broken canine for David, our 1-year-old hound mix, X-rays for Tiny Tim’s broken left hind leg, our 3-month-old kitten, and so much more lifesaving care. This investment provides care to shelter animals no matter how long they reside at KHS, and provides healthy adoptable animals to our community.”
Petco Love is a national nonprofit leading change for pets by harnessing the power of love to make communities and pet families closer, stronger and healthier. Since its founding in 1999, Petco Love has invested $350 million in adoption and other lifesaving efforts.
Petco Love helps find loving homes for pets in partnership with Petco and more than 4,000 organizations like the Kaua‘i Humane Society. These efforts have resulted in 6.7 million pets adopted across North America, and counting.
“Our investment in Kaua‘i Humane Society is part of more than $15 million in investments recently announced by Petco Love to power local organizations across the country as part of our commitment to create a future in which no pet is unnecessarily euthanized,” said Petco Love President Susanne Kogut.
“Our local investments are only part of our strategy to empower animal lovers to drive lifesaving change right alongside us. We recently launched Petco Love Lost, a national lost-and-found database that uses pet image technology to simplify the search for lost pets.”
The Kaua‘i Humane Society is a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering respect, responsibility, and compassion for all animals, and enriching lives by nurturing healthy relationships between pets and people on Kaua‘i and beyond.
Since 1952, KHS has served Kaua‘i as the only open-intake animal shelter on the island. During 2022, Kaua‘i Humane Society cared for 2,407 dogs and cats, saved 517 neonatal kittens with a live release rate of 94.2 percent, transferred 508 animals to no-kill rescue partners, and returned 389 animals to their families.
