PO‘IPU — The National Tropical Botanical Garden announced the free Summer Movie Nights series begins June 10 with the showing of “Puss in Boots” that starts 30 minutes following sunset.
Doors to the NTBG South Shore Visitor Center open at 6 p.m. on the second Saturday of June, July and August, which allows families ample time to order from the food vendors or have a picnic before the movie starts.
On July 8, the NTBG crew will air “Turning Red,” and on Aug. 12, the series closes with the airing of “Strange World.”
Da Wonton Shack, a food vendor at the weekly Aloha Market at NTBG South Shore Visitor Center, will be at the free Summer Movie Night to make available its array of wontons, including traditional pork, bacon-jalapeno, cherry cream cheese, and apple pie with accompanying sauces.
The food truck, which was created by Wes Pacanas using parts of former food trucks and parts he ordered, is custom-sized to handle the wonton assortment, beef hot dogs, chips, and a variety of snacks including peanuts, cashnew nuts, honey-roasted nuts, Red Vines, and beef jerky.
“I wanted to do more,” said Mary Pacanas, who works Da Wonton Shack with husband Wes and David Pacanas, the ‘ohana being present at the Kamanawa Foundation hula ho‘ike, Sunday afternoon and evening at Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Hall. “But we sold out.”
When not at Aloha Market that meets on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at NTBG South Shore Visitor Center, Da Wonton Shack invites catering, or can be found in old Koloa town behind the boardwalk storefront on Saturdays and Sundays.
