A lot of people (there were a ton of stories about the traffic!) were praying for the sun to come out, Friday, so the public high schools graduation ceremonies could take place without the inconvenience of inclement weather …Waimea High School’s Plan B was to move everything into Clem Gomes Gym, and both Kaua‘i and Kapa‘a were planning on issuing umbrellas to their graduates. At any rate, congratulations to all the graduates, and best wishes for a smooth road ahead.

The Outstanding Older American Female, Consuelo “Connie” Baniaga (nope, she wasn’t able to make the recognition ceremony because she’s in North Dakota. The West Kaua‘i United Methodist Church (it’s the one in the Kaumakani canefields) is celebrating its 110th anniversary, June 1 (the public is invited to join them, June 3 — yikes, it’s the same day as the Kaua‘i Poke Fest at the Koloa Landing Resort, and the day before the Rotary Club of Kapa‘a’s Taste of Hawai‘i — yes, it’s back!). Tim DelaVega said Connie should be back by June 1 … maybe not in time to enjoy the Praying Pelicans helpers, but definitely in time to celebrate the church’s 110 years along with Connie’s nominator, Priscilla Badua, and friends … isn’t that Pat Pablo’s church, too?
In the meantime, pray for no rain because Edwin Vea is doing the Beach House Craft Fair, Sunday (starts early enough so you can still make work on time, Jean Souza), and don’t forget the Kumu Hula Kapu Kinimaka-Alquiza and Na Hula O Kaohikukapulani ho‘ike at the Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Hall. Doors to the craft fair (and ono “finger foods”) open at 3 p.m.
