LIHU‘E — A total of 19 graduating Kaua‘i High School seniors shared in $76,000 in scholarships recently distributed by the Kaua‘i High School Foundation.
Rachel Marsing, heading to Kaua‘i Community College to study nursing, Brianna-Lynn Ehia, heading to Blue Mountain Community College with a biology major, and Kayley-Mae Michael, bound for Washington State University to study education, are three of the five students heading to two-year colleges and vocational schools who shared in a total of $10,500 worth of scholarships.
The three students were recipients of the Milt Kaua‘i High School Class of 1960 and Debbie Valera Scholarships that contributed $32,500 toward the KHS Foundation presentations.
Nainoa Tolentino is also heading to Kaua‘i Community College with a field of study that includes mechanical engineering. Corbin Leong will by studying welding at the Universal Technical Institute to round out recipients of the two-year college and vocational school scholarships.
Fourteen students are recipients of four-year college and university scholarships, including Emma Burgess and Kadee Parubrub, who plan on studying nursing. Burgess is heading to Texas Christian University and Parubrub is going to the University of Arizona.
Kate Nakamura will join Parubrub at the University of Arizona to study journalism.
Natalie Lett will be at Texas Christian University to study journalism.
Kenneth Hironaka will be at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa with a computer engineering major, and Blake Hironaka will be at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa with a field of study in electrical engineering.
Shayne Shibuya, recently honored with a Lihu‘e Christian Church scholarship, will be heading to the George Mason University to study biology with the aid of a Milt KHS ‘60 and Debbie Valera Scholarship.
Marissa Matsushige also gets the help of the Milt KHS ‘60 and Debbie Valera Scholarship when she heads to the Worchester Polytechnic Institute to study biomedical engineering.
Tanner Hubbard is heading to the Oregon State University to study computer science.
Elise Yukimura will be attending the University of San Francisco with a major in biology, and Tyler Everett will be at Warner Pacific University studying business management.
Charles Brown III plans to attend the University of Washington with a field of study in statistics and data science.
Kaytin Taba is looking at Hope College to study health care, and Jadelyn Reynolds will be heading to the Washington State University to study animal science.
In addition to the Milt KHS ‘60 and Debbie Valera Scholarship, the Kaua‘i High School Foundation gets the help of The Alan Funamura, KHS ‘54 Scholarship, The Kaua‘i High School Class of 1958 scholarship, the Bert KHS ‘63 and Janette (Ota) ‘62 Matsuoka Scholarship and The Dennis Miyoshi KHS ‘59 in the name of KHS Principal Isamu Miyoshi Scholarship.
The foundation also gets help from The Sharon (Akama) Nakasone Scholarship, The Spencer Tada KHS ‘60 Memorial Scholarship, The Jerome Tanabe KHS ‘57 Scholarship, The Stella (Daida) Tippin KHS ‘64 Scholarship, The Zensaku KHS ‘27 and Tashiko KHS ‘32 Tokita Memorial Scholarship, and The Florence (Kimura) KHS ‘56 and Tad Yoshikawa Scholarship.
