LIHU‘E — Kaua‘i High School pitcher Evan Batalucco, being clocked by his bench teammates throughout the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation baseball season from behind the home plate backstop, received the nod for Pitcher of the Year.
He also filled the “Pitcher” position when the KIF released its Baseball All-Stars 2023 listing on Tuesday.
Spencer Yates, coach for the Red Raiders, earned Coach of the Year honors after leading the Kaua‘i High School baseball team through a one-loss season and the KIF title.
Yates went on to steer the Red Raiders to a second place finish in the Wally Yonamine Foundation Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Division II baseball state championship, following its 6-5 loss to Damien High School in the title game at Les Murakami Stadium at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa.
Kaua‘i High School placed eight players/coaches on the KIF All-Stars, including Batalucco and Yates. Kapa‘a High School placed three players, including Makoa Chong who got the nod as “Catcher.” Waimea High School placed two players, Robbie Correa and Noah Delanoza, on the list.
