LIHU‘E — Kaua‘i High School placed nine tennis players on the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation Tennis All-Stars 2023 that was released Monday.
Island School placed two players, Michael and Mark Fitzgerald, who ended being the individualists for Boys First and Second Singles in the final matches leading to the state tournament.
Kapa‘a placed one, Toni Umalla, as the Girls First Singles.
Waimea High School did not have any Menehune claiming all-star spots.
Jennifer Hreljac, the Kaua‘i High School tennis coach, said the Red Raiders, claiming nine of the 12 all-star slots, did well at the state tournament on O‘ahu where “half of the 10 Kaua‘i High tennis players made it to the second round,” including all-stars Grace Aguilera, Tanner Hubbard, Dillon Fulks, Isaac Mirey, and Keyan Fort.
Aguilera dropped her match to No. 3 seed Kiora Kunimoto of Waiakea High, 6-0, 6-0.
The Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Boys Doubles Champions Tsubasa Okada and Tanner Ige from Punahou School downed Tanner Hubbard and Fulks, 6-0, 6-0, and the No. 5 seed Alex Doane and Angus Hill of Punahou shut down Isaac and Keyan, 6-0, 6-0.
