Kapa‘a’s Javin Raquel watches as Hawai‘i Prep’s Parker Smithson takes his approach shot to the 18th hole during the final round of the David Ishii Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association boys state golf championships at Wailua Golf Course on Friday.

Coaches are important, too, said a golf coach from the Hawai‘i Baptist Academy on Thursday during the opening round of the David Ishii (he’s a Kaua‘i boy like Gen. Eric Shinseki) Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association boys golf tournament at Wailua Golf Course. Kudos, Brent Mizutani has been helping since the girls tournament started Tuesday, as were Kaua‘i High School Athletic Director Keli‘i Morgado, and trainers Keith Burgess and Chris Ang.
