WAILUA — Dane Watanabe of Iolani School fired a tournament-best 4-under 68 on Friday to take the lead of the David Ishii Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association state boys golf championships at Wailua Golf Course.
WAILUA — Dane Watanabe of Iolani School fired a tournament-best 4-under 68 on Friday to take the lead of the David Ishii Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association state boys golf championships at Wailua Golf Course.
Combined with his opening day 2-over 74, Watanabe finished 36 holes with a 142 to take the top individualist spot, five strokes better than Tyler Loree of Seabury Hall, who finished the tournament firing even par toward his 147 total.
Ryder Ng of Waiakea High School on the Big Island tied Loree with an even par round, Friday to end up with a two-day 150. Ng also helped the Waiakea Warriors secure the top team championship with a two-day 614.
Maui Preparatory finished six strokes off the pace at 620 to get the runner-up position after being led by Chris Salem who ended the round at 1-over 73.
Lucas Summerhays of Island School, the top Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation individualist, finished at 30th, overall with an aggregate score of 163, a tie between Summerhays, Landon Long of Maui Prep, Seung Ham of Punahou School, and Noah Camacho of Hawai‘i Baptist Academy.
Island School finished team competition in 10th place with a 67-over par 368.
