LIHU‘E — U.S. Sen. Mazie K. Hirono’s reelection campaign pulled in $350,000 in the first three months of the year, as the federal lawmaker aims for a third term in the U.S. Senate.
The fundraising effort brings her financial war chest to $1,127,000 as of March 31.
“In the U.S. Senate, I’m working to lower costs for families, rebuild our infrastructure, and expand access to education across Hawai‘i,” said Hirono in a statement on Wednesday.
“I’m thankful for the support of people across Hawai‘i, and proud of the resources we’ve raised in the first quarter to power this campaign as we
continue working to deliver for communities across our state.
“As your senator, I remain focused on the work ahead, and I’ll keep fighting, on your side, to ensure every person in Hawai‘i has the opportunity to succeed.”
Hirono, who was first elected to the Senate in 2012 and reelected in 2018, outperformed her fundraising effort from the same period of 2017. In the first three months of 2017, she raised $296,000 to leave her cash on hand balance at $1,006,000.
Hirono currently sits on the Judiciary Committee, Armed Services Committee, Energy and Natural Resources Committee, Veterans’ Affairs Committee, and Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee. She is also chair of the Senate Armed Services Subcommittee on Readiness.
Hirono previously served in the U.S. House of Representatives, as lieutenant governor of the state of Hawai‘i, and in the state Legislature.
