HONOLULU — Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation champion Waimea High School girls softball team earned the top seed in the DataHouse Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Division II State Softball Championships, the HHSAA announced Saturday afternoon.
No. 2 seed is Nanakuli High School, PAC-5 is seeded third, Kamehameha Schools-Hawai‘i of the Big Island Interscholastic Federation was awarded the No. 4 seed in the tournament.
Kapa‘a High School, the KIF No. 2 team, will start tournament play on Tuesday against Kohala of the BIIF. The Warriors earned the berth following its 26-0 win over Moloka‘i High School, the MIL No. 2 squad, Wednesday at a play-in contest in Kapa‘a on Wednesday, April 26.
Other unseeded teams participating in the DII state championship tournament include Damien High School, Radford High School, Lana‘i High School, ‘Ai‘ea High School, Honoka‘a High School, Waialua High School, and Kohala.
All of the seeded team will enjoy an opening day bye, Waimea taking the field on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at McKinley High School against the winner of the Damien and Radford matchup.
The DII championship game is Friday, May 5, at 4 p.m. at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa.
Top seed for the Division I play is Campbell, with Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama the No. 2 seed. Baldwin of the Maui Interscholastic League earned the No. 3 seed, with Waiakea High School of the BIIF getting the No. 4 seed.
Similar to DII play, all seeded teams earn opening day byes.
Other participating DI teams include Maui, Kapolei, Iolani, Kaiser, Hilo, Mililani, Wai‘anae and Leilehua.
The DI championship game is at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 6, at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
