HANAPEPE — The Hawai‘i High School Rodeo Association presented its 34 year-end awards to HHSRA members that range from kindergarten through high school seniors at the year-end awards banquet on Sunday at Wong’s Restaurant, where more than 100 people attended to celebrate the cowboys and cowgirls’ achievements.
President Tammy Puu of the Kaua‘i HHSRA said the Junior High rodeo athletes will be competing at the state rodeo that will take place on May 5-6 at the CJM Country Stables in Po‘ipu, where the top 50 kids will be participating.
Kaua‘i’s high school rodeo athletes will be traveling to the New Town and Country Stable on O‘ahu to compete in their age group state rodeo on June 8-11.
“Each member is competing for a spot on the state teams to compete at the National level,” Puu said. “The juniors will head to Perry, Georgia, in June, and the high schoolers will head to Gillette, Wyoming, in July.”
Puu said this year happens to be the National High School Rodeo Association’s 75th anniversary.
