LIHUE — The Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation released its 2023 Track and Field All-Stars on Monday.
Coinciding with the first-place winners of each event, Kapa‘a High School 10th grader Nash Burkart led the listing with three spots — high jump, long jump and triple jump. He is Kapa‘a boys’ sole all-star.
Island School 10th grader Eddie Silliman earned nods, in the 110-meter high hurdles and 100 dash. Overall, Island School placed in four spots.
Kaua‘i High School senior Brennen Corregedore also earned two all-star honors, in the 1,500 and 3,000 runs. Kaua‘i High School earned four spots among the boys all-stars.
For the girls, Kapa‘a’s Jodimarie Woodward and Kaua‘i High School’s Aileah Villatora and Emma Burgess each secured two spots on the list.
The Kaua‘i High School girls led the listing with five spots,Kapa‘a High School secured four spots, and Island School earned three spots.
Additionally, the KIF wanted to take the opportunity to thank and appreciate the help of Coach Dave Walker, who came out of retirement to be starter at all of the KIF qualifying meets, including the Kaua‘i Rotary Meet that started in 1946 in a track in Kekaha.
The appreciation and mahalo extend to former state Department of Education Kaua‘i Complex Area Superintendent William “Bill” Arakaki and Coach Ron Velasco for help at the KIF meets that were held at Vidinha Stadium in Lihu‘e that completed its repairs to the track to enable the KIF athletes to have a track season.
