Tommy Noyes of the Friends of Kamalani Playground and Lydgate Park said Saturday, April 22, is Earth Day, and people are encouraged to sign up for helping the park and playground (he’s been doing this since 2006). Work starts at 7:30 a.m. (same time as when the Troy Barboza Law Enforcement Run starts with the Special Olympics Flame of Hope at Vidinha Stadium in Lihu‘e).

Before the “work” starts, Tommy said Puna Kalama Dawson and Halau Ka Ipu Ha‘a ‘O Kekau‘ilani Na Pua Hala ‘O Kaua‘i will lead an “E Ala E” chant and greeting to celebrate the dawn on Earth Day as part of a international gesture of solidarity with our planet. You need to be there by 5:30 a.m. with a small vessel of water.
And, the partnership of Kanu Hawai‘i, Ho‘omalu Ke Kai and Seasport Divers (you have to register ahead of time!) is hosting a dive cleanup on Saturday along the South Shore of Kaua‘i.
And, if you still need something to do, the Hanapepe Economic Alliance is hosting a series of cultural talks and demonstrations on Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Hanapepe Public Library, the Hanapepe United Church of Christ social hall, and The Storybook Theatre of Hawai‘i. And Friday Art Night will still go on from 5 to 8 p.m.
Finally, don’t forget the Earth Day event with the electric vehicle people at the Lihu‘e Civic Center parking lot, where electric vehicle owners and enthusiasts will be on hand to talk story about getting into electric vehicles.
Just a lot of things on the plate (The Grove Farm Market is open from 9:30 a.m. on Saturday). Be safe, and don’t forget A-L-O-H-A!
