LIHU‘E — Tuesday, April 11, 2023, marks the 55th anniversary of President Lyndon B. Johnson signing the Civil Rights Act into law, which included the Fair Housing Act.
As part of National Fair Housing Month in April, the Kaua‘i County Housing Agency, along with other state and county agencies, are providing free training opportunities for landlords and tenants to learn about the most current federal and state fair housing laws.
The training is being held virtually via Cisco Webex Meetings:
• April 13, 10 a.m. to noon: Fair Housing: Ask the Experts;
• April 20, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; Disability, Reasonable Accommodations and Modifications, and Assistance Animals: A Practicum;
• April 27, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; Case Studies.
The theme for this year’s Fair Housing Month is “Fair Housing…Choices for All Voices: Building an Equitable Future.” Experts from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Hawai‘i Civil Rights Commission and Legal Aid Society of Hawai‘i will present the most current information and answer questions regarding the most current federal and state fair housing laws.
