Kudos to all the organizers who put together a solid weekend of events, ranging from the helicopter egg drop (Happy birthday, Rhonda Ceballo) on Saturday at the Vidinha Stadium soccer fields, to the annual Kaua‘i Buddhist Council Hanamatsuri, or Buddha’s birth, at the Kaua‘i Soto Zen Temple Zenshuji in Hanapepe, which is already looking ahead to its April 22 fundraising concert featuring Kaua‘i-grown Japanese and Okinawa music.

Kudos, too, Darin Tann and the Keoki’s Paradise ‘ohana for the great hospitality when Michael DeMotta (congratulations on the honor!) of the National Tropical Botanical Garden was announced the recipient of the 2023 Ho‘oulu Award presented by Keoki’s Paradise. Derek Kessler (keep missing those Misty cupcakes) of Duke’s, (mahalo, Susie Sexten on allowing us to have not one, but two great eateries here) said the dinosaur beach volleyball (is Derek Iha playing?) starts this week at Kalapaki Beach.
It was a pleasure to see Kumu Hula Kehaulani Kekua and Halau Palaihiwa O Kaipuiwai ladies Eva Joy Miner-Peru and Aliana Ho perform the hula medley on plants in honor of DeMotta’s award.
Kudos, Charlie Ortiz, Eric Nordmeier, and all those West Kaua‘i Lions on hosting the 125th community egg hunt (what? Dennis Eguchi said Jackie dyed 3,000 real eggs. Charlie Ortiz said they had to increase the budget because eggs cost so much).
OK, time to go check out the Job Fair on Wednesday from 1 p.m. at the Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Hall in Lihu‘e. Who knows, Lenny Rapozo (he’s helping officiate Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation baseball, too) might be outside his office for some talk story.
