LIHU‘E — At least $35,000 in stolen equipment and damages was the end result of a break-in at the Lihu‘e Wastewater Treatment Plant on Tuesday, April 4, 2023.
The Kaua‘i Police Department is investigating the break-in, which was reported by wastewater plant personnel. The wastewater treatment plant is on Ninini Point Street near Lihu‘e Airport.
“According to a preliminary report, at 4:45 a.m. Tuesday, wastewater personnel discovered the entrance to the plant destroyed, with the front gate apparently rammed through,” the department said in a statement. “Thieves stole a county Ford F-250 truck, miscellaneous tools and personal items.”
The truck was located approximately four hours later at a business parking lot in the Lihu‘e area. The truck suffered significant damage to the front end.
