PO‘IPU — Friday was more than just the last day of March at the Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i Resort and Spa in Po‘ipu.
The Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i celebrated March as Cancer Awareness Month, and to close the month, donated $7,688 to the American Cancer Society. The money represents the proceeds raised during the Bum Run hosted by Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i and Kawailoa Development on March 4, as part of the Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i’s cancer awareness month.
Additionally, the Po‘ipu resort lit its lobby atrium with blue lights throughout the month in observance of cancer awareness.
Kittrin Cade, of the American Cancer Society, took advantage of the gathering to announce the return of the popular Relay for Life event that disappeared with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We’re back, in-person,” Cade said. “We’re also in a more central location — the Vidinha Stadium soccer fields on Aug. 19 from 4 to 10 p.m.”
Funds received from the Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i will go toward this year’s ACS Relay for Life, along with the $4,000 that was generated from a line dance event held at Kaua‘i Veterans Center that was also illuminated in blue for the month of March.
“It’s not too early to register yourself, or a team for the Aug. 19 event,” Cade said. “Registration is easy. Simply visit the Relay for Life website at secure.acsevents.org.”
The website also offers an online store where purchases benefit the American Cancer Society and the fight against cancer.
Relay for Life, a time to remember those who didn’t make it through the fight against cancer, and a time to support and cheer the survivors of the deadly fight, is one of the largest peer-to-peer fundraising events in the world, states the American Cancer Society website.
“We’re not doing this 24 hours,” Cade said. “It’s just from 4 to 10 p.m. so you don’t need to be up all night.”
