‘Lobby Day’
I recently attended “Lobby Day” at the state Capitol in Honolulu with two other members of the American Association of University Women.
We attended to support the Equal Pay amendment that assures women and men make the same amount of money for a particular job.
Currently, women earn only 77 cents while men earn $1 for the same or equivalent work.
Please support women by calling your representative and giving them your opinion.
The other cause that we represented was support for Hawaii Reproductive Rights Bill Senate Bill 1.
Please contact these representatives to provide your input.

Infants on planes
With the announcement on the news that safety issue for infants on an airplane. The airlines will start having infants ride in their own seat using a baby car seat to buckle them (infants) for their safety. It’s necessary. Because of infant death or serious bodily injuries in a plane crash/accident.
It’s all good.
However, they (the airlines) will be charging full adult fees for an infant to take up a seat space.
Maybe it’s time to bring back the hydrofoil boats or ferry. (only people, no cars)

Taking up a full seat, only fair that they charge for a fare for that infant. Why not just child fare and not full adult fare? SouthWest Airlines has been taking up some of Hawaiian Airlines passengers and doing pretty good at it. Which ever you prefer. I like flying SouthWest Airlines because the airlines has more pop to the airlines than a Boeing 717-200 twin engine jet Hawaiian Airlines. So I’ll ride SouthWest Airlines inter-islands.
I don’t know, Heidi. If the airlines gives your kid a seat at a discounted rate, then they have to up the price of my seat and everyone else’s to cover that cost and maintain their bottom line. Why do I need to help finance your travel expenses?
Right now the airlines are charging by the seat. Regardless of what is put in the seat, the price should be the same.
Unfortunately, a plane can only take off with so much weight, and burns more fuel the heavier it is. Eventually, the airlines will charge for how much people weigh, with I’m sure, a minimal charge for the seat. The plus, plus, plus, plus, size will loose their respective minds.
Nadine…..I’m too tired to explain for the one thousandth time:
“The official Bureau of Labor Department statistics show that the median earnings of full-time female workers is 77 percent of the median earnings of full-time male workers. But that is very different than “77 cents on the dollar for doing the same work as men.”
“The big differences are in occupation and industry. Women congregate in different professions than men do, and the largely male professions tend to be higher-paying. If you account for those differences, and then compare a woman and a man doing the same job, the pay gap narrows to 91 percent. ”
Men only care about one thing: “How much are you going to pay me?”
Women have many requirements, and gravitate to 3 of the lower earning occupations (child care, secondary education, healthcare): “I only want to work 9-5, have weekends off, no more than 40 hours a week, no overtime, no travel, paid baby leave, only want to work in an air-conditioned office, no sweating, nothing that will mess up my hair, have a 401K, maybe a pension, and most importantly….employer provided Healthcare and paid time off.”
Facts sting…
