LIHU‘E — Kaua‘i High School pitcher Evan Batalucco threw a two-hitter on Friday, and the Red Raiders went on to take both ends of its doubleheader against Island School during Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation baseball games played at Vidinha Stadium.

Red Raider hitter Austin Renaud topped the lumberyard by scoring three times, whacking three hits and pushing three Red Raiders across the plate in the contest where Kaua‘i mustered eight hits in a 10-0 shutout over Island School.
In the day’s second contest, Kaua‘i clinched the KIF first round with a 6-3 edge over the Voyagers on seven hits to Island School’s six. The win keeps Kaua‘i undefeated at 6-0 in league.
Top Red Raider stick belonged to Renaud, who got two hits with two RBIs.
Xailer Duarte had the hot bat for the Voyagers with a run, a hit, and one RBI. Cash McCluskey had a hit and an RBI, and Lyndon Kealoha had a hit and an RBI.
Kapa‘a High School, finishing Round 1 with a 4-2 record following its dual wins over Waimea on Saturday, 3-2 and 7-5, at Ron Martin Field on the Kapa‘a High School campus, sits in second place followed by Waimea and Island School.
Kapa‘a came from a 1-0 deficit to push a run home in the third, fourth, and fifth innings for the 3-2 edge that came on six Warrior hits compared to Waimea’s five.
Tysen Haumea held the hot bat for Waimea with a double and a single with two RBIs.
Kyrin Ibaan scored once for Kapa‘a and hit a double and single to lead the Warrior bats. Tyden Pegedor-Iha and Bob Manintin, the winning pitcher, each pushed an RBI.
Manintin went for 3.3 innings on the mound, giving up a run on three hits while striking out three and walking one Waimea batter.
The next KIF varsity baseball game will take place at Vidinha Stadium on April 7 when Island School hosts Waimea High School in a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m. Kaua‘i High School will make the trip to the Ron Martin Field on April 8 to face Kapa‘a in a tripleheader starting with the Junior Varsity at 8 a.m. in a two-hour time limit contest.
