LIHU‘E — A schedule of high school graduation ceremonies for the state of Hawai‘i shows the County of Kaua‘i hosting three public school commencements, all on Friday, May 19, with no planned health and safety restrictions related to COVID-19.
Kapa‘a High School is scheduled to hold its ceremony at 5:30 p.m. at the Mayor Bryan J. Baptiste Sports Complex in Kapa‘a. Kaua‘i High School is scheduled to hold its graduation ceremony at 5:30 p.m. at Antone “Kona” Vidinha Jr. Memorial Stadium in Lihu‘e, and Waimea High School is scheduled to hold its graduation ceremony at 6:30 p.m. on the school’s front lawn.
The schedule of events, which was released Friday, March 24 by the state Department of Education, covers commencement exercises for 46 high schools.
“Our public schools strive to ensure that every student reaches their fullest potential and can be successful and thrive after high school, no matter what path they choose,” said Department of Education Superintendent Keith Hayashi in a statement on Friday.
“Graduation is the culmination of that effort, reflecting years of dedication by our students and their families, teachers, administrators and peers who have helped them achieve their goals along the way. I know that our Class of 2023 will continue to make Hawai‘i proud as they embark on their next journey,” he said.
Attendees of local and statewide graduation ceremonies are also being advised to be mindful of COVID-19 precautions, and to stay home if they feel sick, have symptoms of illness, or have tested positive for COVID-19 within five days of a ceremony.
Schools will be sharing logistical details with parents and students.
