Lesley R. Smith
Lesley R. Smith, 87, passed away at home on March 12, 2023. He was born on Dec. 3, 1935, in Arkansas and worked in data processing for General Motors.
Lesley is survived by his children Brenda (Chuck) Brown and Jeffrey (Debbie) Smith and two grandchildren Ryan and Lauren.
Services will be announced in the future.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Gloriana Y. ‘Nani’ Lane
Gloriana Y. “Nani” Lane, 83, of Mililani, O‘ahu, passed away on Feb. 14, 2023, in Lihu‘e. She was born on Sept. 9, 1939, in Kapa‘a. She worked as security at Lihu‘e Airport.
She was preceded in death by husband William J. Lane, stepson Harrison Lane, stepdaughter Cathy Marasco and grandson Nelson Au.
She is survived by daughters Shawn “Cookie” Cummings Clerc (Ron), Ilima (Patrick) Lopez, Kendra Olds, Edwina Malia Cummings-Kimura (Don), Billie Kay Lopes Sheldon (Robert), Anela Lane Kael (Jonathan), step-sons Michael Lane, William Lane, sister Alice Pacheco, 23 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life is Thursday, April 6, at the Kaua‘i Beach Resort Jasmine Ballroom. Visit with family begins at 9:30 a.m. followed by service at 10:30 a.m.
Ruth Sachiko Akama Wakayama
Ruth Sachiko Akama Wakayama, 95, of Wailua Houselots, passed away on Feb. 1, 2023. She was born in Lihu‘e on March 25, 1927 and retired from the State of Hawai‘i Department of Taxation.
She was preceded in death by husband Stanley Mitsuo Wakayama, parents Paul and Umeyo Akama, brother Paul Akama and sister Helen Matsuura.
Ruth is survived by son Scot Wakayama, daughter Laura Wakayama, grandsons Tyson (Chanelle) Wakayama, Travis Wakayama, great-grandchildren Makoa, Kamalei and Makena Wakayama, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life is Saturday, April 15, at the Lihu‘e Christian Church, with visitation from 11 a.m. and services beginning at 11:30 a.m.

Sadamu ‘Sam’ ‘Aka’ Akamine
Sadamu “Sam” “Aka” Akamine, 93, of Kekaha, went to be with Jesus on March 3, 2023. He served as a Marine sergeant in the Korean War, employed as a master plumber for 48 years for the Kekaha Sugar Company, and was an avid fisherman.
He was the cherished husband of Fujiko (Nada), father to Hale (Gayle), Claire China (Ed), Lorna Hu (Hayden), Sandra Kishaba (Richard), Kurt (Kristi), grandfather to Rachel Kau‘i (Kawika), Trevor Hu, Ryne Mizushima, Matthew, Joshua and Jonathan Kishaba, Erin and Ezra Akamine, Hope Akamine and great grandfather to Nova Kau‘i.
He was the brother to Tsuruko Shimabukuro, Mitsuno Hada, Yachiyo Nakamatsu and Teisuke Akamine, all whom preceded him in death. He was “Uncle Sam” to many nieces and nephews, “Aka” to his friends and a baseball coach.
Private services were held.
Visits with the family are welcomed on Saturday March 18, at their home in Kekaha, 8388 Kopaa Road, from noon to 2 p.m.
Myron Shigemi Shimamoto
Myron Shigemi Shimamoto, 81, of Las Vegas, Nevada, formerly of the Big Island of Hawai‘i, passed away on Jan. 24, 2023 in Las Vegas, Nevada, at Valley Memorial Hospital.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years Patricia Shimamoto of Las Vegas, Nevada, sons Michael (Michele) Shimamoto of Pu‘ulani Ranch in Pu‘uanahulu, Richard Mello of Honolulu, Spencer (Denise) Mello of Albuquerque, New Mexico, daughter Elizabeth Shimamoto of Kealakekua, 10 grandchildren, 7 great- grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild, brother Robert (Dorothy) Shimamoto of Hilo, sister Sandra (Joseph) Ooka of Na‘alehu, half sister Lori Shimamoto Black of Honolulu, step brothers Melvin Sakaba of Honolulu and Patrick Sakaba of Texas.
He was predeceased by his parents Richard Harumi Shimamoto and Rose Adolpho Morris, his hanai parents Gilbert D. and Hilda Kawelo Silva, hanai brothers Gilbert D. Jr., Vernon and Glen Silva and hanai sister Diana Konohia.
Myron was a graduate of Kamehameha Schools Kapalama campus class of 1959, he was also a member in good standing of 60 years with local 675 plumbers union where he retired at age 50. He soon worked for Hawaiian Airlines, then went onto work for the DOT airports division in Kona and the Waimea, Kohala airport before retiring and moving to Las Vegas.
A celebration of his life will be held on Nov. 4, in Pu‘uanahulu more details will be shared at a later date.
