The first event for the weeklong Fitness Week in Kalena Park starts Saturday afternoon at Kalena Park.
The free Bikes on Rice program, starting from Kalena Park and coinciding with the Downtown Lihu‘e Night Market, starts at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. The program is a safe, slow-paced ride throughout the surrounding neighborhoods on “any kine bike,” organizers said.
This is just one of the many no-cost activities being offered during Fitness Week in Kalena Park, a team effort between the county Department of Parks and Recreation and Get Fit Kaua‘i with support from Bella Dia, the Girl Scouts of Hawai‘i, the Kaua‘i Athletic Club, Kaua‘i Hot Yoga, Po‘ipu Beach Athletic Club and others.
The website kalenapark.com is the best guide to the offerings that include pickleball clinics (for adults and youth), yoga, walking tours, keiki activities and even an animal dance party hosted by the Girl Scouts.
The Healthy Half-Mile Walking Group that meets on March 13, 16 and 18, offers a fun, casual stroll around the Kalena Park neighborhood that is open to the entire ‘ohana as part of Fitness Week.
Led by Get Fit Kaua‘i, the walking path starts and ends at Kalena Park, with all registered Fitness Week participants entered into a prize drawing. The walking path exercise can be also performed without the Get Fit Kaua‘i leaders by visiting the kalenapark.com website that offers detailed information on any of the events being offered.
