Fair, open process
In response to Gary Hooser’s piece on a fair and open process.
We already had that, last November, and the people have spoken.
The votes garnered in the general election speak for themselves.
I did not vote for Ross Kagawa in November’s election. However, the most fair and logical next step would be to select the eighth most popular vote-getter to fill Mr. Evlin’s seat, and that would be Ross.
Fern had her chance at running; she did not get as many votes as Ross. Period. That was the people’s choice.
Why should she, or anyone else who had the opportunity to run and either chose not to or did not garner enough votes, get to bypass the fair and open process of election?
The job of the Kaua‘i County Council is to represent and enact the will of the people, and in this case, that has already been clearly laid out before them.
Loretta Mattos, Kekaha
Loretta…. You think like the council good old boys. Remember how Mason Chock got in? He wasn’t even running. What was fair about that election. Give me a break with your fair and open election
Loretta…. If you knew the past actions committed by who the council voted for you might suggest it should have been someone else
I think the process is fair. But that part of the government is not the topic to best get the job done. Even if a person is elected into office, he or she may still not be qualified to do the job of a county councilmen. That means get a pay. That leaves people in the dark yet. What’s going on? nothing is being done. Like clean highways. Clean beaches. Policemen’s paycheck. Lifeguard’s pay. Tourist attraction sites being cleaned. That kinds of stuffs. Which means that there are still areas in government, not touched upon. That means no taxes need be collected. Surely seeing these results, no one in their right mind would pay their share of taxes. Really. Now what? I don’t think they can continue with these acting rituals that county councilmens are doing. This is getting ridiculous. So who’s doing the work? I don’t know.
