Kudos to Thomas Nizo, Puni Patrick and the scores of volunteers from the historic Waimea Theatre Foundation that presented the 46th Waimea Town Celebration, rain or shine, over the past eight days. Carlina Vea (she’s always at the Kekaha July Fourth celebration!) had a family reunion from all over to help celebrate the heritage of Waimea town!

Sanctuary Ocean Count team leader Carol Everett (she was co-team leading with Marga Goosen at the Ahukini landing site) said they were real “warriors” for having braved all that wind and waves that generated ocean foam that blanketed the entry area to the Ahukini State Recreational Pier parking lot. Jean Souza of the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Sanctuary said Mike Kano canceled the Ninini Point Lighthouse site because the weather was so “radical.”
That must’ve been a reason we missed U.S. Rep. Jill Tokuda, who was safe inside being interviewed by KQNG Radio’s Ron Wiley before going off to lunch at Tip Top (Brian Atendido has a really nice photo of Tip Top in the rainy mist). But Laurie Ho and Amy Chun were at the Grove Farm Market in Puhi preparing for Tokuda’s meet and greet with the Kaua‘i County Farm Bureau, Grove Farm’s Warren Haruki and new interim CEO Don Horner.
Nannie Apalla of the Resilience Project was getting her shopping done (she loves having the compost collecting station) and was able to connect with Laurie on the upcoming two-day ag event coming up in June (it’s after the King Kamehameha Day celebration!).
