Happy birthday to Romaine Tumbaga Peak’s sister, who is celebrating her 90th birthday immersed in all of the Waimea Town Celebration events … how was the Kaua‘i Kim Chee eating contest, Ferdinand Dosono? It’s the same day Romaine and her sister were doing dinner at Wrangler’s Steak House. They’re looking forward to the ice cream eating contests and the lei contests that will happen on Saturday at the ho‘olaule‘a in the shadow of the sugar mill.
Kudos, Chef Mark Oyama, Marty Amaro, and the Kaua‘i Community College culinary arts department for getting Chefs Dale Radomski and Charlie Matsuda to help teach the students the art of vegetable, fruit, and ice carving!
Natsumi Yamasato (no Science Olympiad, this year) said her husband is scheduling Kamicon for April 8 (that’s the birth of the Buddha) this year at the Royal Sonesta. More details will be coming … just save the date for this first in-person extravaganza following the COVID-19 pandemic.
