LIHU‘E — Hawai‘i Community Lending is offering two free presentations to Kaua‘i employers, homeowner associations and community organizations on how to help local and Native Hawaiian homeowners experiencing financial hardship.
Through the Homeowners Assistance Fund, residents can benefit from up to $30,000 in grant funds to help with past due mortgages, property taxes and homeowner association fees.
“We are looking to engage businesses, nonprofits, government agencies and homeowners’ associations as leaders in our community to attend this meeting,” said Jeff Gilbreath, HCL executive director. “Help is here for your employees and clients who are facing foreclosure due to impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic. Let us come together to solve this issue, together.”
The presentations are Wednesday, March 1, from 9 to 11 a.m. and noon to 2 p.m., at St. Michael &All Angels’ Episcopal Church in Lihu‘e. The morning session includes breakfast, and the afternoon session includes lunch.
Additionally, an online presentation will be offered on March 8 and 15 from 5 to 6 p.m. on each of those days.

“Helping to solve Hawai‘i’s housing crisis is the mission of Hawai‘i Community Lending. If you or someone you know is struggling to keep a roof over their heads, do not let them suffer in silence; attend this meeting,” Gilbreath said.
”Our organization, Hawai‘i Community Lending, was established to navigate local and Hawaiian families on their journey to homeownership, and to sustain homeownership for future generations. We all have a role to play.”
All homeowners who apply may receive free U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development housing counseling to assist with creating a budget and action plan, including loan modifications to prevent foreclosures. The Homeowners Assistance Fund program is presented by the County of Kaua‘i, together with HCL and other Hawai‘i nonprofits.
