PORT ALLEN — The Kaua‘i Island Brewing Company announced its latest beer that was produced in collaboration with the Koloa Rum Company.
“The Mistress of Madagascar” is an Imperial “Pastry” Stout 13 percent Alcohol By Volume resulting in a “thick and boozy beer with complex flavors and a hint of chocolate” states the announcement by the brewing company.
“We are excited about this new beer — a rich and decadent stout loaded with copious amounts of specialty chocolate and black malts,” said Bret Larson, part owner of the brewing company.
“Then, it’s aged for three months in Koloa Rum barrels before being finished with local Banana MacNut Kaua‘i Coffee, and ridiculous amounts of fresh Madagascar Vanilla. It reminds me of Chocolate Rum Cake.”
Now it’s time to celebrate the tapping of the barrel and a taste of the new creation. Kaua‘i Island Brewing Company and the Koloa Rum Company invite the public to the Tapping of the Barrel Celebration on Friday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Kaua‘i Island Brewing Company, 4350 Waialo Road, in Port Allen.
“Koloa Rum is thrilled to partner with Kaua‘i Brewing in providing our five-year aged rum barrels for their exciting new Imperial Stout release,” said Bob Gunter, the president of Koloa Rum Company. “Our collaborations with Kaua‘i Coffee Company, Lydgate Farms, and Kaua‘i Brewing serve to provide meaningful support to them, and our island’s economy.”

This title is hilarious. Someone needs to explain what tapping means.
