The Kaua‘i Concert Association will present world-renowned cellist Steven Isserlis and pianist Connie Shih in concert on Friday, Feb. 17, at St. Michael &All Angels’ Episcopal Church, at Hardy and Umi streets in Lihu‘e.
Isserlis, describing himself as a cellist, author, musical explorer and general enthusiast, is known for his profound musicianship and technical mastery. During his Kaua‘i Concert Association presentation, Isserlis will play music of Bach, Boccherini, Brahms, Mendelssohn and Moscheles.
The cellist has appeared worldwide with leading orchestras at storied venues, and has an extensive discography. Additionally, he loves working with children, and has published two books and created three musical stories.
Shih made her debut at the age of 9, playing the Mendelssohn Piano Concerto with the Seattle Symphony.
Considered one of Canada’s most esteemed artists, Shih has performed as a soloist worldwide, as well as with her duo partner, Isserlis.
Doors open at 6 p.m., with the program at 7 p.m. following a pre-concert presentation by Karen Hall at 6:40 p.m.
Tickets are available online at Kauai-concert.org, or at the door, for $40 adults, and $15 for students.
The Kaua‘i Concert Association was founded in 1974 and is Kaua‘i’s only consistent presenter of classical music performances at affordable costs to the island’s residents and visitors. Additionally, the Kaua‘i Concert Association focuses on supplementing the music education provided at the island’s public and private schools.
