Shoppers still have to eat, so they braved the inclement weather to wait on their Mom Filipino Comfort Food (Geraldine and Francis Baniaga didn’t take down their tent!), and the papaya that were among the first to go (ever try finding something in short supply in all that wind and rain that Flora Worth’s (she’s the Pau Hana Market manager) granddaughter Brooklyn described as “sideways rain.” Brooklyn’s mom was trying to nap in the car, but ever try to sleep through thunder in the afternoon?
According to the National Weather Service, the Kilohana rain gauge showed more than 5.5 inches of rain falling within a 24-hour period ending 8 a.m. Tuesday … that’s more than the Mount Wai‘ale‘ale gauge that reported just 4.38 inches, and the Lihu‘e Airport station that recorded 2.16 inches.
