KAPA‘A — Island School’s Mikey Melvin scored in the second half to give the Voyager varsity boys a 1-0 edge at the final whistle on Saturday during a Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation soccer match at Island School in Puhi.
Island School split its series against Kaua‘i High, with the Voyagers claiming a 1-0 edge over the Red Raider boys, and the Red Raiders claiming a 2-0 shutout over the Voyager girls.
Kapa‘a High took all four contests at the Mayor Bryan J. Baptiste Sports Complex in Kapa‘a, including the junior varsity Warrior girls claiming a 7-0 shutout over Kaua‘i High’s JV girls in a contest that was fought because Waimea High did not field a JV girls team this year.
The Warriors continued to roll with Kapa‘a claiming a 10-2 victory over the JV Menehune boys.
The Kapa‘a varsity girls closed their season on a winning note, 4-0 over the Menehune wahine, and the varsity boys claiming a 3-1 edge over the Waimea boys.
The KIF soccer games continue Tuesday when Kaua‘i High’s varsity boys host Kapa‘a High in a 4 p.m. start at Island School. According to Kaua‘i High thletic Director Keli‘i Morgado, the change was made due to repairs being done to the Vidinha Stadium track in Lihu‘e.
On Wednesday, the Island School boys will host the Waimea boys starting at 4 p.m.
