ANAHOLA — An Anahola woman faces multiple charges after authorities said she struck a 12-year-old boy, who was riding his bike, with her SUV in Anahola on Saturday afternoon.
The Kaua‘i Police Department said that the boy, who is from Anahola, was riding his bike along ‘Aliomanu Road on Saturday when a black Dodge SUV struck him shortly after 4:20 p.m.
First responders with the Kaua‘i Fire Department and American Medical Response treated the boy at the scene. He was later transported and admitted to Wilcox Medical Center, where he was listed in serious condition.
The woman driver was arrested. She is facing charges of reckless driving, negligent injury, driving without a license and inattention to driving, the police department said. She was released pending an investigation.
Police said speed does not appear to be a factor in the crash. Toxicology reports are pending to determine whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash, according to police. An investigation is ongoing.
