HANAPEPE — Kapa‘a High School soccer traveled to the Hanapepe Stadium where it swept three of the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation contests the Warrior soccer teams participated in against Waimea High School in a series that ended Thursday.
Over at Vidinha Stadium where play was limited to daylight hours due to the repair work being done on the stadium lighting, Kaua‘i High School varsity boys dropped 3-1 to the visiting Island School varsity guys.
Island School’s Sawyer Rogoff netted two goals, and Ignacio Elzardia booted in the first goal in the 33rd minute of play. That goal was followed by Rogoff’s first goal that found the folds of the net in the 34th minute for a 2-0 halftime Voyager lead.
Rogoff iced the victory in the 61st minute, or the 21st minute of the second half, to ice the win. Xaedan Valdez scored Kaua‘i’s only goal in the second half, preventing a shutout.
Over at the Hanapepe Stadium, Kapa‘a punched out wins of 3-1 over the Menehune varsity girls, 3-1 over the Waimea varsity boys, and wrapped up the series on Thursday with a 3-1 win over the JV Menehune boys during contests the KIF soccer officials described as “good.”
The Warrior wahine did all of its damage in the first half when Sienna Yamashita found the net at the end of a breakaway down the wing in the 13th minute. Mia Kaneakua-Inoshita followed that goal in the 19th minute in traffic outside the Waimea goalmouth, and Julia Durocher put the game away on her 29th minute score.
Waimea’s Canyon Niccore came off the 3-0 intermission to score in the second half to prevent the shutout.
Kapa‘a boys’ Kala Velasco netted two goals, and Kamalei Dasalia-Mundon scored a goal in Kapa‘a’s 3-1 edge.
Marces Butac scored Waimea’s sole goal in that contest.
During the JV contest on Thursday, Kapa‘a 3-1 edge was led on goals from Andrew Durocher, Isaiah Noguchi, and Jared Varela, while the Menehune JV found its goal from Zachary White-Tzeng.
Waimea High School next hosts Kaua‘i High School on Wednesday at Hanapepe Stadium. Kapa‘a will host Island School at Bryan J. Baptiste Sports Park stadium on the same date. The varsity girls game starts at 5 p.m. with the varsity boys starting at 7 p.m. at both sites.
