LIHU‘E — Christmas will be brighter for almost 400 disadvantaged individuals who qualified as recipients as part of The Garden Island newspaper/Zonta Club of Kaua‘i Christmas Fund project.
LIHU‘E — Christmas will be brighter for almost 400 disadvantaged individuals who qualified as recipients as part of The Garden Island newspaper/Zonta Club of Kaua‘i Christmas Fund project.
Eight nonprofit agencies submitted their client requests, many appearing on the front page of the newspaper between Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve. Their real names were never used.
Each agency was allocated funds to purchase essential needs as part of this holiday project conducted thanks to the generosity of contributors.
Recently at the Lihu‘e Civic Center, representatives from the various nonprofit agencies gathered to accept donations from and members of the Zonta Club of Kaua‘i.
Present were Emily Ishida of the county Agency on Elderly Affairs, Leialoha Sanchez from Women In Need, Kaulana Mossman from Kaua‘i Adult Health Care, Ray Ho from the state Department of Health developmentally disabled division, Jason Honjiyo, Stephanie Fernandez and Taylor Young from Kauai Economic Opportunity, Julie Kauakahi from Child &Family Services, Fred Constantino from Catholic Charities and Billie Kay Yokoyama from YWCA.
Zonta members present included Cyndi Ayonon, chair of the Zonta of Kaua‘i Foundation Christmas Fund and Marge Akana, co-chair. The Zonta committee extends its heartfelt thanks to the numerous donors who made this a cheerful holiday for many.
Contributions are still being accepted at zonta-kauai.org, or checks made out to Zonta Club of Kaua‘i Foundation can be mailed to P.O. Box 3032,Lihu‘e, HI 96766.
The Zonta Club of Kaua‘i Foundation celebrates its 32nd year thanks to the empowered women leaders like this year’s Honorary Chair Yoshiko “Dimples” Kano, who has dedicated years to this project along with many others.
