LIHU‘E — The Kapa‘a High School boys basketball teams, and the Kaua‘i High School boys basketball teams swept their respective games on Tuesday night during Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation boys basketball games at Wilcox Gymnasium at Island School, and Bernice Hundley Gym at Kapa‘a High School.
The Red Raiders took both its matches against Island School, the Junior Varsity Raiders taking a 47-18 win over the JV Voyagers, and the Varsity Raiders staying ahead of the Voyagers, 53-42.
At Bernice Hundley Gym, the JV Warriors posted a 57-26 win over Waimea High School, and the Varsity Warriors held off the Menehune, 49-48 on a crucial charity shot pair by Warrior Reimel Camacho in the final 3.6 seconds of play.
Christian Vito led the Kaua‘i JV win with nine points. Laurence Ganir and Kanaloa Yasutake combined for 12 points.
Matthew Dobashi netted 11 of the JV Voyagers’ 18 points.
On the Varsity court, Kaua‘i held a 33-14 halftime lead only to have the Island School Varsity come back to outgun the Raiders 28-20 in the second half.
Lukas Myers led the comeback effort by finishing with 11 points, followed by Lucas Summerhays, who added eight points. Garrett Hadley and Orion Magaoay each finished with six points, including a trey apiece.
Over at Bernice Hundley, Austin Green topped the JV Warriors’ scoring on 16 points, followed by Jaden Hedges dropping 13 points.
Rhene Punzalan topped the JV Menehune effort by netting 12 points, all distance treys, with Lokahi Delos Reyes getting six points, including one three-ball.
Keaka Kauhane finished with a game-high 23 points in Kapa‘a’s one-point edge over the Menehune in a physical slugfest. Mikey Questin, showing strong in the paint, finished with nine points. Camacho finished with eight points, including the crucial charity pair.
Lindcey Constantino topped the Menehune effort with a game-high 24 points, including three bombs from outside the three-point mark in the fourth quarter. Eli Ewing added nine points, and Jeydon Moises added five points in, including a trey, in the effort.
The KIF boys basketball series takes place Dec. 27 when Kaua‘i visits Bernice Hundley Gym, and Island School makes the trek to Clem Gomes Gym against Waimea. The JV games at both sites tip off starting at 5:30 p.m. with the Varsity contests starting 20 minutes after the JV games.
