KAPA‘A — The Boys &Girls Club Kapa‘a Clubhouse was selected to be the recipient of $462 raised by the Kaua‘i Police Department, which was recently presented to the clubhouse.
“It was great for KPD to meet with and speak to the children at the Boys &Girls Club in Kapa‘a,” said KPD Assistant Chief Bryson Ponce.
“Project ‘Positive Change’ was created to inspire others, as well as to make small contributions for the greater good. So, we asked the kids if they could match our monetary donation with a donation of aloha by doing one good deed for three different people during Thanksgiving. The children said they were committed to do this.”
Positive Change, derived from the concept that everyone’s small contributions will collectively add to bigger contributions, was held at KPD headquarters from Aug. 15 through Nov. 15. KPD employees deposited their loose change into change collection containers, with the final amount to be presented in support of a Kaua‘i nonprofit organization.
“On behalf of the staff and the Boys &Girls Club Kapa‘a Clubhouse members, I want to say ‘mahalo to KPD’s Positive Change program for raising funds for the club,” said Feliciano “JR” Guerrero, the BGCH Kapa‘a Clubhouse director.
“These funds will go specifically towards a family strengthening program that we are currently planning for Christmas. Not only is the club a place where we want the youth to grow as individuals, but it is also a place where the entire ‘ohana is positively affected by the club. They say ‘it takes a village to raise a child,’ and I am honored to say that the Kaua‘i Police Department is part of our village.”
