LIHU‘E — The Spectrum team on Kaua‘i turned over 968 pounds of food on Wednesday to the Hawai‘i Foodbank Kaua‘i.
“Remarkable!” said Tisha Remigio, who is the impact manager for the Hawai‘i Foodbank Kaua‘i. “Mahalo to all of the Spectrum employees for the support of nourishing our ‘ohana today and creating a better tomorrow.”
The total amount of food turned over represents the proceeds from Spectrum’s annual food drive that took place during the month of November. During last year’s drive, the Kaua‘i Spectrum team won the overall, statewide, food drive competition and were awarded a gold belt for the honor. The team is hoping to repeat as Hawai‘i Food Drive Champion with their collection.
The Hawai‘i Foodbank Kaua‘i said, “We all know the past couple of years have been rough on us all. Not only the pandemic, but inflation has taught us many things — the resiliency to meet today’s needs. Even with our best efforts, the current inflation will result in an increase in food insecure individuals.
“Hawai‘i Foodbank Kaua‘i continues to serve one in seven people who struggle with food insecurity. Over the past 12 months, the Consumer Price Index, based on West Region Consumer Price Index data, has increased by 6.6 percent.
“We are thankful for the campaigns and food drives our community organizes to help benefit those who need it most. Did you know that by donating to the Hawai‘i Foodbank Kaua‘i, your contribution helps support the 36 agency partners across the island that ensure that no one goes to bed hungry?”
