Damascio Ruiz Jr.
Damascio Ruiz Jr., 83, of Koloa, passed away on Nov. 3, 2022, in ‘Oma‘o. He was born on Aug. 22, 1939, in Waimea and was a retired air traffic control technician with the Hawai‘i Air National Guard.
He was preceded in death by parents Margaret and Damascio Ruiz Sr., sisters Rose Medeiros and Shirley Cambra, sister-in-law Edith Ruiz, brothers-in-law Herbert Cambra and John Vegas Sr. and granddaughter Keala Ruiz.
He is survived by wife Thelma (Fu) Ruiz of ‘Oma‘o, sons Lindell Ruiz of ‘Oma‘o, John (Lisa) Ruiz of Hanapepe and Ross (Janel) Ruiz of ‘Oma‘o, daughters Laurie Ann Ruiz of ‘Oma‘o, Shari Ann Ruiz of Kalaheo and Raynette (Nathan) Chun of ‘Oma‘o, brother Donald Ruiz of Arizona, sisters Mary Jane Vegas of O‘ahu and Emily Ruiz of California, 16 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service is Saturday, Dec. 10, at Garden Island Mortuary in Lawa‘i, with viewing from 9 to 10 a.m. and celebration of life to follow. Burial will follow at Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe at 1 p.m. The family requests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Sonny Aulani Niau
Sonny Aulani Niau, 82, of Kekaha, passed away on Nov. 29, 2022. He was born on June 30, 1940, in Pu‘uwai, Ni‘ihau. He was a ranch hand, agriculture worker and laborer.
He was preceded in death by wife Martha Ku‘uleipuanani Niau and parents Abraham “Keuao” Niau and Hannah “Kawaiola” Niau.
He is survived by sons Shane (Mila) Niau of Kekaha and Robin “Kila” Niau of Kekaha, daughters Yolanda K. Niau of Kekaha, Melody K. Kanahele of Hanapepe, Francine “Lei” Niau of Kekaha and Robin-Brianna K. Cabral of Kekaha, seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, sister Florence “Lolena” Nicholas of O‘ahu, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A service is Friday, Dec. 9, at the Garden Island Mortuary in Lawa‘i. Visitation begins at 9 a.m. followed by celebration of life. The family requests casual attire.

Paul James Pimienta
Paul James Pimienta, 34, of Kalaheo, passed away on Nov. 1, 2022 at Straub Hospital on O‘ahu. He was born on May 27, 1988, in Lihu‘e. He was a bartender at the Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i Resort & Spa in Po‘ipu.
He was preceded in death by grandparents Pio Sr. and Petra Pimienta and Tino and Erlinda Udarbe.
He is survived by son Kasen Pimienta of Lawa‘i, daughters Makena Pimienta and Ava Pimienta of Lawa‘i, parents Pio T. and Jane U. Pimienta, brother Chris Pimienta of Kalaheo, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Viewing is Friday, Dec. 16, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Garden Island Mortuary in Lawa‘i.
A service is Saturday, Dec. 17, at Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo. Visitation is from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. and Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home in Lihu‘e. The family requests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Ann Kazue Nishikawa
Ann Kazue Nishikawa, 83, of Lihu‘e, passed away at home on Oct. 23, 2022. She was born on Sept. 22, 1939. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by husband Henry Nishikawa, parents Tomezo and Toyo Ueda, brother Kiyoshi Ueda and sister-in-law Emily Ueda.
She is survived by daughters Apryle (Randy) Obatake and Deneen (Rolen) Macadangdang, son Henry (Debbie) Nishikawa Jr., grandchildren Richard (Shawlin) Nishikawa, Tyson (Megan Macadangdang) Obatake, Megan (Kuincy) Cariaga, Mandy Obatake, Savannah Simons, Elaine Nishikawa and Brandy Macadangdang, great-grandchildren Kahela Nishikawa-Chandler, Nakoa Nishikawa, Nainoa Nishikawa, Kyler Nishikawa, Mia Obatake, Kourtney Obatake, Mason Cariaga and Kamaya Cariaga, great-great-grandchild Kohaku Kelley, and numerous uncles, aunts and nieces.
Private services were held.
