LIHU‘E — A Lihu‘e man has been identified as the bicyclist, who was killed in a hit-and-run on Rice Street two days before Thanksgiving.
William Browning, 47, died from injuries suffered after the bicycle he was riding westbound on Rice Street was hit by a white Toyota Tacoma. The driver of the vehicle left the scene before emergency medical personnel arrived, and is still being sought.
Browning was treated at the scene, and then transported to Wilcox Medical Center in critical condition. The incident happened shortly before 8:45 p.m. on Nov. 22 near Lihu‘e Town Plaza, the Kaua‘i Police Department said in a statement on Thursday, Dec. 8.
“According to a preliminary investigation, the bicyclist was traveling westbound on Rice Street when he was struck from behind by a white Toyota Tacoma that was also traveling west,” the department said in a statement. “The Tacoma was described as having an extra cab and pipe racks.”
The hit-and-run closed Rice Street in both directions for about 1 hour and 45 minutes, while the Kaua‘i Police Department’s Traffic Safety Section conducted an investigation.
The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call the Traffic Safety Section at 808-241-1615.

The White toyota tacoma with extra cab and Pipe racks… ok, now that we know what to look for. If you observed such a truck, and noticed that owner just removed their pipe racks off their white toyota tacoma extra cab… that would be suspicious.
If anything, that owner should come clean or his conscience will forever haunt him (her).
