HONOLULU — The Salvation Army Hawaiian &Pacific Island Division announced Monday that it is requesting donations and volunteer support from businesses and individuals to help those in need during this holiday season.
The Foodland stores are the lead sponsors of The Salvation Army’s 2022 Love Beyond Christmas campaign.
“We humbly ask Hawai‘i’s businesses and the public to join with us to help those in need all year round,” said Maj. Phil Lum, division commander for The Salvation Army Hawaiian &Pacific Islands Division.
”We are seeking monetary and in-kind donations, as well as volunteers. Volunteer bell ringers are particularly needed to help us keep Red Kettles out in communities as much as possible,” he said.
“It is important to remember that Red Kettle, Angel Tree and monetary donations stay in the communities where they are donated.”
Red Kettle donations support community-based programs in the area of each island where each donation is made, and the sights and sounds of The Salvation Army’s iconic Red Kettles and bell ringers are synonymous with the holiday season.
Red Kettle supporters are able to donate digitally with Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal and Venmo at any Red Kettle in Hawai‘i. Virtual kettles have been established for all The Salvation Army corps and communities statewide. Visit Hawaii.RedKettle.org for more information or to contribute virtually.
Kaua‘i Red Kettles can be found at the Big Save locations in ‘Ele‘ele, Koloa and Waimea through Dec. 24. Additionally, Ishihara Market in Waimea will have a kettle through Christmas Eve.
The Safeway store at Hokulei Village Shopping Center will have kettles starting Monday and through Christmas Eve. Sueoka Store in Koloa, the Times Supermarket at Kukui Grove Center and the Walmart store in Lihu‘e have kettles through Dec. 24.
Businesses are able to adopt an actual Red Kettle or counter kettle for their offices or storefronts. Businesses can also set up paper Red Kettles at their location to help collect funds for those in need. Details are available by contacting the Development Department at 808-988-2136.
Volunteer bell ringers are needed to man the Red Kettles, and available opportunities can be found at Hawaii.SalvationArmy.org.
Another way to help The Salvation Army is to visit the Aloha Kia Kaua‘i, where the “Fill the Soul” holiday event is collecting donations in Kia Souls for The Salvation Army now through Dec. 16. Items being requested include household items, such as toiletries, towels or clothing, and will be distributed to families in need now and throughout the year.
