Talk about your Hawaiian blessing. Geraldine Baniaga of Mom’s Filipino Comfort Food (yep, they have some desserts, too, and how about those pineapple juices and lemonade?) was in a downpour during the Pau Hana Market at Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e on Monday. It was raining so hard Laurie Ho had to use an umbrella while moving the parking cone for Amy Chun. Welcome to the Pau Hana Market, Geraldine and ‘ohana!

Kaua‘i Community College culinary arts instructor Steven Nakata must have a big project coming up, and in answer to all those shoppers, yes, Kurt “Toke” Rutter and Tomo Rutter of Tokabago Farm (Ferdinand Dosono of Kaua‘i Kim Chee found a new source for cucumbers) are SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly food stamps) vendors.
Keane Akao and ‘ohana of Nake‘u Awai Designs (Jaime Jimenez was helping too. She’s related to Hawai‘i News Now’s Dillon Ancheta, who was making his way to the airport) got stuck in that Lights on Rice holiday parade. Good thing Nake‘u Awai Designs and Colleen Kimura of Tutuvi had their showing Saturday and Sunday at the Kaua‘i Museum, where Director Chucky Boy Chock is hosting Ni‘ihau Day this Saturday from 9 a.m. (are we having Ni‘ihau pancakes like they did at Light It Up! in Waimea?).
Kudos, Little Pea (Peach Alpeche), on having such a great benefit for Kaua‘i Hospice, and having baby Seeley Borges and her family distributing bags of popcorn. The Third Lanterns of Love gets turned on starting Wednesday (it’s Pearl Harbor Day) through Jan. 8, 2023, at the Kaua‘i Hospice offices on Pahe‘e Street. Visit kauaihospice.org for more information.
