Peter is a single male, who lives alone in his home as he has for many years. He has had multiple challenges in the past several years, which have affected his quality of life.
He has some support on the island, but does have resistance to accepting help from others. He is trying his best to live as independent a life as possible with the support of the small groups he allows into his life.
Any support that will allow him to continue to live independently, while supporting his quality of life, would be appreciated.
Through Christmas Eve, The Garden Island will share daily, front-page stories about families and individuals (we don’t use their real names) facing challenges and who would appreciate a little help.
The Christmas Fund is an avenue for everyone to provide that assistance. Donations are used by Zonta Club members to purchase gift certificates that are in turn distributed to families and individuals through social-service agencies.
Each donation is accounted for and recorded. There are no administrative costs involved, and money goes directly to provide for those in need of Christmas presents and groceries.
If you hold a fundraiser for the Christmas Fund, let us know and we’ll spread the word. Anyone making a donation of $200 or more can have their picture published in TGI.
Donations may be made by way of the website, Zonta-Kaua‘i.org, or checks can be made payable to The Zonta Club of Kaua‘i Foundation, P.O. Box 3032, Lihu‘e, HI 96766.
• Jack and Jill Hill. Jack, 83, and Jill, 70, live with their daughter in an attached studio to the house.
Jill is vision impaired due to a tumor found five years ago in the frontal lobe. She is able to find her way on her own when at home, but any other places she will use husband Jack to get around. Jack is hearing impaired and his vision is blurry. Eight years ago, he had a tumor in his colon. They are very co-dependent on each other.
Jack and Jill live a very simple life. They stay home and just hang out outside. Jack, at times, wishes to go to the mall, but understands that his family is busy. But when they do have the chance to go cruising, they get very excited.
Anything to make this holiday season brighter would be very much needed and appreciated.
• Daisy Rose is 60 years old and lives alone. She suffered two strokes five months apart. The second stroke affected the base of the brain, the left side. Vision is hard right now due to the strokes. She is attending therapy sessions.
She is working on changing her diet (she is diabetic as well). Her son from Oahu flies back and forth on his days off to come help with mom. Her mom helps out as she can as well.
Any support that might be offered would help bring her cheer this holiday season.
