Ron Wood of FM97 said the air was “electric” even before the first units rolled out (Ryan Fussell came right from his flight from Oregon to the Vidinha Stadium staging area!), and Ron Wiley of the KONG Radio Group spent a few days trying to find out when the first Lights on Rice parade started. Remember when the late Bill Dahle had to clear the inauguration ceremonies because the Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Hall parking lot in Lihu‘e was needed to stage the floats?
J Robertson of Ho‘ike Community Television had his traditional Lihu‘e Missionary Church vantage point on Rice Street, (any word on when we’re doing the Operation Christmas Child rummage sale?), and kudos to Lexi Jones and Rachel Secretario (Wow! All those Junior Warriors went crazy — Mrs. Secretario!) for the interaction with the parade units (65 and counting!). Wow! Almost as big as the Honolulu Hale (is Hawai‘i News Now’s Dillon Ancheta going to make it back to Honolulu in time?) lights event, and the Mauna Loa eruption!
Kudos, Wes Perreira and his Hawai‘i Foodbank Kaua‘i ‘ohana (no, I don’t need LED bulbs, Raina Santos!), who even had food available for the “houseless” when they set up the dozen or so pop-ups back of the Kaua‘i Museum (check out those big name fashion designers this afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.).
And kudos to Rodney and Savannah Sagucio of Shaka Burgers (phone: 808-388-4290; address 2403 Ulumaika Street, which is across the Costco gas station) on not running out of food!
